True, you will always have different levels of "spiritual growth" amongst a congregation, even of the "elect". But, at least they should have "the elementary teachings about Christ" such as: the true "foundation" which is Messiah Jesus, Son of God [and not 'God the Son' or an angel or anything other but, Mat 16.16; cp, 2Cor 4]; "repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about cleansing rites, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment". That way, "god permitting...we may be taken forward to maturity"[Heb 6.1-3].

You are quite right. Add the fact that people are not always truthful about their faith- sometimes they say what they think the questioner wants to hear, or they are ashamed of their faith, for some reason.(John 18:17)

Also,even if you take a group of true Christians, there will always be slight variations in their beliefs. There will always be things they disagree on. The upside of this is that if they are indeed true Christians, those things do not shake their faith, but rather build it up.(By stimulating research, prayer and contemplation.

Only Yahweh knows the answer to that one! I like to think that these very emotional conversions/salvations that happen at evangelical conventions, are either the start or the culmination of previous study, prayer and meditation on God's will. Even if this "salvation" just plants a little seed of desire to learn more, it has had at least some function. It would be interesting to do a study, a few years down the line, to see how many of those "saved", are still saved, or have become disinterested and apathetic, or have perhaps moved on to learn more about the true meaning of Jesus's Gospel.

Your article is so true that it hurts. All these poor "souls" that attend these evangelical meetings, seem to think that one can buy salvation so easily- almost like popping into the local supermarket for milk and bread. Surely, common sense alone would dictate that salvation could not be gained so easily. It really is sad.

Anthony, I really enjoy your podcasts, I am in South Africa, our internet connection rather slow and expensive, so I got my son (who lives in NY) to put a whole lot on a memory chip and post it to me. It seems he listened to some of them along the way, so I hope and pray a spiritual seed has been planted!

I pray that Yahweh continues to bless you in allowing you to make known the Good News of the Gospel.
